Writers organisations

Authors' Licensing & Collecting Society (ALCS) is the UK rights management society for all writers. Its principal business is to collect and distribute fees to writers whose works have been copied, broadcast or recorded. It also collects monies for lending and rental. Since its foundation ALCS has paid writers over £65 million in fees – fees they would not have been able to collect individually. ALCS is wholly owned and controlled by writers.

Chapter One Promotions provides many exciting opportunities to aspiring and established writers by offering avenues to develop further. The company runs residentials and workshops led by experienced, professional authors, and offers a story reading service that will critique a writer's work at every stage of their writing development. The Society of Authors is a non-profit making organisation, founded in 1884 "to protect the rights and further the interests of authors". The Society has almost 7,000 members.
